One of the godfathers of rhumba music, Martin "The Big Boss" Sibanda, has announced his return to the music scene with a fourth solo album, set to drop on August 1.
The announcement, made through a video posted on his official Facebook page, has generated a wave of excitement among rhumba fans eager for new material from the iconic Bakhuzeni hit-maker. Supporters flooded the comments with messages of celebration and anticipation.
Speaking from his base in South Africa, Sibanda revealed key details about the upcoming project.
"The new album is ready and coming on August 1. We'll have a show at the Victory Theatre in Johannesburg. Ibhodo selivuthiwe, clean your plates and spoons," Sibanda told his fans, using a local phrase meaning "the pot is boiling" - signaling something exciting is coming.
He promised that listeners should expect a high-quality, educational, and entertaining album, true to his signature style.
"I didn't feature anyone, this is The Big Boss undiluted. It's a five-track album: four songs in isiNdebele and one in TjiKalanga," he said.
More information, including the album title and tracklist, will be shared soon. Following the Johannesburg launch, Sibanda plans to tour Zimbabwe, performing to promote the new release.
Known for his commanding vocals and magnetic stage presence, The Big Boss rose to fame during the golden era of Ndolwane Super Sounds, a group instrumental in shaping the cross-border rhumba sound. Since the group's split, Sibanda's output slowed, leading some fans to question if his prime was behind him.
This comeback, however, is proving that legends don't fade-they recharge.
Among his celebrated solo works, Bakhuzeni remains a fan favourite, with hits that cemented his status as a heavyweight in the genre. His other albums include Konke Sizokulungisa and Uyavuma, alongside numerous popular singles released over the years.
Rhumba fans can look forward to rekindling the magic of The Big Boss as he returns with a fresh offering this August.
