ZIFA suspends ZIFASOL activities

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended all football activities run by the Zimbabwe Football Federation for Amateur and Social Leagues (ZIFASOL) with immediate effect, citing serious violations of its regulatory framework.

In a strongly worded statement issued on June 16, 2025, ZIFA said ZIFASOL's application for official membership had been rejected, yet the body continued to operate without proper authorisation.

"ZIFA wishes to inform the public and all football stakeholders that the application by the Zimbabwe Football Federation for Amateur and Social Leagues (ZIFASOL) for membership to ZIFA was not approved," the statement read.

ZIFA accused ZIFASOL of running unauthorised area zone football competitions and training programmes, a move the association described as an attempt to parallel ZIFA's official football structures.

"ZIFASOL continues to organise football activities at the area zone level without the necessary authority," ZIFA said.

"Furthermore, ZIFASOL has been conducting football training courses without accreditation or approval from ZIFA. The public is therefore advised that any football training or education programmes conducted under ZIFASOL are not recognised and are hereby declared null and void."

ZIFA emphasised that only it and its recognised affiliates are legally mandated to oversee grassroots football development, and any unapproved activities pose a threat to the quality and safety of football in Zimbabwe.

In a direct response to the violation, ZIFA ordered all clubs and leagues operating under ZIFASOL to immediately align themselves with ZIFA's Area Zones structure or risk facing disciplinary action.

"These activities constitute parallel administration of football, which is in direct violation of ZIFA regulations," the association warned.

"All clubs and leagues previously affiliated with or participating in ZIFASOL competitions are directed to immediately align themselves with officially sanctioned ZIFA Area Zones structures."

ZIFA reiterated its commitment to structured football governance and called on all stakeholders to respect the sport's regulatory framework.

"ZIFA remains committed to structured football development and calls on all stakeholders to respect and uphold the regulatory framework that governs the beautiful game in Zimbabwe."

The association has invited concerned individuals or clubs to contact the nearest ZIFA office for further clarification or guidance.

The sudden suspension has sent shockwaves across the amateur football scene, with insiders warning of major disruption to fixtures and training schedules. Several clubs are now scrambling to secure official recognition to avoid being sidelined from future competitions.

ZIFASOL had gained traction in various communities for organising grassroots football, particularly in underserved areas. However, critics argue the body lacked proper structures and oversight, leading to concerns over coaching standards and player safety.

While ZIFA's move is expected to restore control over football development, the fate of many amateur players and community clubs remains uncertain as the restructuring unfolds.
