Zanu-PF Harare backs ED2030

ZANU-PF Harare Province has reiterated its call for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030, citing his "sterling service" to the nation.
The resolution was made during a Provincial Inter-District Conference held yesterday at the party's Harare provincial offices, where members gathered to craft positions for submission to the national leadership through ZANU-PF National Chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
Harare Provincial Chairperson, Godwills Masimirembwa, said the province reaffirmed support for Resolution Number One of the 21st National People's Conference held in Bulawayo, which endorsed Mnangagwa's continued leadership.
"The resolution is that President Mnangagwa, in recognition of his sterling service to the nation, should continue in office as the President of Zimbabwe until 2030. To that end, Harare Metropolitan Province has resolved that the appropriate party and Government structures must attend to the necessary changes in the Constitution to enable this extension," said Masimirembwa.
He explained that the proposal was not to scrap term limits but to defer the next general election to 2031, effectively allowing Mnangagwa to serve until 2030.
"As far as Harare Province is concerned, this will come beyond the term limits permitted by the Constitution. The expectation is that Parliament will play its role to postpone elections to 2031 so that His Excellency the President serves up to 2030. That is the most important resolution that came out of our deliberations," he added.
Masimirembwa said Mnangagwa's infrastructure development drive in Harare was a key motivation behind the resolution.
"We already have the Trabablas Interchange, which has transformed transport in the city, and we know there is work being done on the Mabvuku Interchange and other smaller interchanges. We also recognise the tremendous development in the education and health sectors. In particular, we thank His Excellency for the renovation works at Parirenyatwa Hospital and at Sally Mugabe Hospital," he said.
The conference also congratulated Mnangagwa on his recently completed term as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Delegates further adopted a resolution on drug and substance abuse, applauding First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for her role in raising awareness and championing rehabilitation initiatives.
"Harare Metropolitan Province extends its heartfelt thanks to the First Lady of Zimbabwe for her sterling efforts in combating drug and substance abuse. We stand with her in saying no to this menace," said Masimirembwa.
