Bulawayo police are appealing for public assistance following the brutal murders of two men at a bar in the city's Luveve suburb, an incident captured on CCtv.
The attack occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Wednesday at Kidza Nightclub in Chigumira Business Centre. Investigators believe about seven men, thought to be artisanal gold miners, were involved in the killings.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said the suspects were drinking at the nightclub when a fight broke out. Once calm returned, two men were found dead from multiple stab wounds.
The victims have been identified as Bishop Ncube, 46, of Lobengula West, and Malach Ndlovu, 40, of Luveve. Ndlovu's body was discovered nearby following a blood trail, while Ncube was found inside the bar with stab wounds to his forehead and left thigh. He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital but was certified dead on arrival.
"The footage shows a group of people arguing before one of the men collapsed," said bar owner Tapiwanashe Mapfumo, adding that the investigation would be left to the police.
Chigumira Business Centre, popular for its nightlife and braai spots, has recently become a hotspot for crime, residents say. Petronella Mguni, from the local residents' association, called for strict adherence to bar closing times to prevent violent incidents.
"Nightclubs must adhere to closing times to prevent unruly behaviour. We don't feel safe in an area where people can be murdered and the attackers vanish without a trace," she said.
Nomvelo Moyo, another local resident, noted that outsiders flock to the area to drink, often causing chaos. "People come from all over Bulawayo to drink here, and some don't think twice about committing serious crimes because they have no family ties in Luveve. Bottles of bronco are scattered everywhere in the morning, showing how people are abusing illegal substances," she said.
Police have urged anyone with information on the attack to contact the nearest station as the manhunt for the suspects continues.
