The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has moved to clarify growing public concern over the frequency and location of police roadblocks across the country, assuring citizens that all deployments are conducted under strict operational guidelines.
In a statement, the ZRP said all roadblock schedules are approved through a formal chain of command - from station and district levels up to the Police General Headquarters' Operations Department - to ensure transparency and adherence to national policy.
"The policy of the Zimbabwe Republic Police is that no roadblocks are manned within a 30 to 50-kilometre radius of each policing area, whether in an urban or rural setup," the statement read. "Police officers conducting roadblock duties are supervised by Station, District and Provincial Commanders to prevent cases of indiscipline or corruption and ensure quality service to the public."
The police further explained that the number of roadblocks may temporarily increase during periods of heightened public activity, such as national events, public order operations, or emergency responses to criminal activity, including vehicle pursuits or the recovery of stolen property.
"Once the situation normalises, the roadblock setup reverts to the ideal arrangement," ZRP said, stressing that any officer found to be conducting unsanctioned or improperly managed roadblock duties will face disciplinary action.
Members of the public were encouraged to report any irregular or suspicious roadblock activity to the Commissioner-General of Police or the relevant Provincial Command. Complaints can also be lodged through the National Complaints Desk on 0242 703631 or via WhatsApp on 0712 800 197.
The police assured citizens of their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and maintaining public trust in law enforcement operations.
