Zimbabwe's religious community is in mourning following the death of Archbishop Paul Mwazha, founder of the African Apostolic Church, who passed away on 20 November 2025 at the age of 107 after a long illness. Known affectionately as Mutumwa Mwazha, he was widely regarded as a pillar of spiritual leadership and a mentor to generations of church leaders.

In a statement via the church's official social media channels, Bishop Jeshua Mhizha, General Secretary of the African Apostolic Church, announced the passing of their leader: "It is with deep regret that I inform you of the passing of our beloved leader, Archbishop Paul Mwazha of Africa. Although he has departed from us, we remain united in spirit. More information will be provided in due course. Kudzai Jehovha, Kudzai Jehovha!"

Church leaders across denominations have paid tribute to Mwazha's enduring legacy. Apostle Stephen Mangwanya of the New United Apostolic Faith Church described him as one of Africa's greatest evangelists, praising his mentorship, wisdom, and courage. Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira of Johanne Masowe highlighted Mwazha's leadership during colonial times and his role in mentoring senior church leaders across the continent, calling him a "spiritual hero."

Apostle Benjamin Joseph Murata of the New Life Pentecost Church reflected on Mwazha's impact, referencing Isaiah 57 to underscore the importance of righteous leaders like him in guiding communities. Prophet Tapiwa Freddy, leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, expressed hope for unity among the African Apostolic Church's members and continuity of Mwazha's ministry.

Prophetess Memory Matimbire, leader of Daughters of Virtue (DOV), hailed Mwazha as a "general of God," celebrating his lifelong devotion, integrity, and the example he set for spiritual leaders. "The hand of God was proved through him in living more than 100 years," she said, adding that his life exemplified faithfulness and dedication to God's calling.

Mourners have been visiting Mwazha's home in Hatfield to pay their respects. One devoted follower, Machivei Chiduma, recounted visiting the Archbishop with her parents the previous week and receiving prophecies that have since come to pass in her life. Prophet Passion Java took to social media to extend condolences to the Mwazha family.

Archbishop Mwazha's passing marks the end of an era in Zimbabwean Christianity, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship, spiritual guidance, and a church that continues to influence communities across Africa.
