Zanu-PF mobilises grassroots for Mnangagwa term extension

The ruling Zanu-PF party in Mashonaland West Province has begun a campaign to cascade its 2025 National Conference resolutions to grassroots structures, with district leadership unanimously endorsing the outcomes. A central focus of the mobilisation is the party's first resolution: extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term to 2030.
Senior officials have indicated that the legal process for the term extension is targeted for completion by the Christmas holidays. Over the weekend, inter-district committee members met across the province's six administrative centres to review conference outcomes, with strong support expressed for President Mnangagwa to continue leading the nation beyond his current term.
At a Zvimba inter-district meeting in Banket, Central Committee member and Minister of Justice Ziyambi Ziyambi, who also serves as the party's Politburo Secretary for Legal Affairs, emphasised the urgency of constitutional reforms to facilitate the extension.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, and National Women's League Treasurer Caroline Mugabe attended the meeting, with Chombo praising the President's leadership and policies fostering business growth, urging members to leverage these initiatives to achieve national prosperity by 2030.
Similar endorsements were made at the Makonde inter-district meeting in Chinhoyi, where Provincial Chairman Mary Mliswa-Chikoka tasked district leaders with disseminating the resolutions to all party members. She described the feedback meetings as crucial, noting that the national conference was primarily attended by senior members, making grassroots engagement essential.
Mliswa-Chikoka also officiated at the Sanyati inter-district meeting in Kadoma, calling for unity and discipline within party ranks as Zanu-PF moves forward with its agenda for constitutional reforms and term extension.
