Scottland FC partners with Liverpool FC

In a night brimming with glitz, glamour, and historic announcements, Scottland FC cemented its place as Zimbabwean football's rising powerhouse.

During a star-studded kit and player unveiling ceremony at Harare Sports Club on Friday, the Premier Soccer League champions announced a landmark partnership with English Premier League giants Liverpool FC. The event drew high-profile attendees, including American hip-hop artist Rick Ross.

Club chairperson Everson Chatambudza revealed that the collaboration between Scottland Academy and Liverpool FC aims to address social challenges through sport.

"Because we believe in nurturing talent and youth the right way, I'm pleased to announce that our Scottland Academy has entered into a partnership with Liverpool FC," Chatambudza said.

"In the wake of the scourge of drug and substance abuse that bedevil our communities, this partnership is more than football. It is a lifeline. We are giving our young boys a choice between the streets and the stadium; between destruction and discipline. We are bringing world-class methodology to groom players who can compete on the international stage."

The announcement follows a recent strategic alliance with South Africa's Durban City FC, signalling Scottland's ambition to build a global football network.

Chatambudza also revealed a bold infrastructural revolution: a $30 million, 20,000-seater CAF-certified stadium in Mabvuku is set to begin construction this March, while a $15 million world-class training facility in Ruwa has already been completed.

The club's financial backing for the 2026 season is equally impressive, with $10 million in sponsorships and 40 operational vehicles secured. Ecobank has contributed $1.5 million specifically to support Scottland's CAF Champions League campaign.

The evening reached a climax when a Scottland jersey, signed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and featuring his historic prison number, was auctioned for a record $1 million to a joint bid by Sakunda Holdings and Fossil Contracting.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Emily Jesaya, praised the club's vision, highlighting the alignment with national development objectives.

"I am delighted to witness this celebration of excellence. Your achievements have inspired countless young athletes across our nation," Jesaya said.

"The 20,000-seater stadium project is a welcome development aligned with the government's goal of creating an enabling environment for sport to thrive. Football is a powerful tool for youth empowerment."

As Scottland FC prepares to face traditional giants Dynamos in the Castle Challenge Cup, the club's focus remains on continental success.

"We are going to the CAF Champions League to carry the flag of Zimbabwe," Chatambudza said.

"We will be the diplomats in boots. We will carry the spirit of Mabviravira to the continent and show Africa that Zimbabwean football is alive and coming for respect."
