Lovemore Madhuku, head of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), has received fresh death threats just days after being hospitalised following an alleged assault by suspected State agents.

Unknown individuals reportedly painted graffiti at the NCA offices, warning Madhuku to abandon his opposition to the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. Party spokesperson Madock Chivasa condemned the threats, stating, "President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government will be held responsible should anything happen to the NCA president."

Chivasa added that the intimidation campaign was intended to instil fear among Zimbabweans to prevent opposition to the amendment, which critics say is designed to entrench Zanu PF's grip on power. "We urge all Zimbabweans to speak with one voice and reject the unreasonable amendments meant to entrench Zanu PF hegemony in Zimbabwe," he said.

The threats follow a series of violent incidents against the NCA. Madhuku and 17 other members were hospitalised on Sunday after being assaulted during an internal meeting to strategise against the constitutional changes. A week earlier, two NCA members were allegedly abducted by unidentified men, tortured, and later dumped in the upmarket Highlands suburb of Harare.

Despite the escalating threats and violence, Madhuku has vowed to continue challenging the controversial amendment, insisting that the fight for democratic principles will persist.
