Former Nkayi South Zanu PF legislator Stars Mathe has been accused of hijacking the 100th anniversary celebrations at Dimpamiwa Primary School in Nkayi after allegedly pressuring school authorities to include her as Guest of Honour, triggering outrage among community members.
A concerned villager who spoke to this publication said Mathe — who lost the 2023 parliamentary election — allegedly forced her way into the programme, using fear and political intimidation to secure a prominent role at the event.
“This isn’t just a case of sour grapes; it’s a brazen attempt to hijack a community event and exploit the school’s milestone for political gain,” the villager said.
He claimed school authorities felt compelled to comply due to fear of reprisals, citing Zanu PF’s historical use of intimidation.
“It’s utterly disrespectful to government protocol and an insult to state institutions, parents, learners and alumni who worked hard to make this celebration happen,” he added.
The villager further accused Mathe of using “Gukurahundi‑style intimidation tactics” to silence dissent, saying the centenary celebrations — expected to run throughout the year — had been tainted from the outset.
“Nkayi people and Dimpamiwa Primary School deserve better,” he said.
Mathe could not be reached for comment.
