Questions raised over purported OPC letter naming Auxillia Mnangagwa as ‘incoming president’

HARARE – A purported confidential letter allegedly originating from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has surfaced on social media, claiming that a local printing company was instructed to produce official presidential portraits of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa as the “incoming President”.

The document, dated 14 July 2026 and addressed to Printflow (Private) Limited, directs the company to print 1,000 copies of what it describes as the official portrait of “the incoming President, Auxillia Mnangagwa”, and further instructs the firm to treat the assignment as strictly confidential.

However, the authenticity of the letter could not be independently verified, and it contains several inconsistencies that have raised doubts over its legitimacy.

Among the anomalies, the letter claims the OPC was acting “by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa” while simultaneously referring to Auxillia Mnangagwa as “the incoming President” and elsewhere as “The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe”. The contradictory references have fuelled speculation that the document may have been fabricated or altered.

The purported letter also contains spelling, grammatical and formatting errors that are uncommon in official government correspondence, further casting doubt on its authenticity.

As of Thursday, neither the OPC nor Printflow had publicly commented on the document, and there has been no official announcement indicating any change in Zimbabwe’s presidency. Under Zimbabwe’s Constitution, presidential authority is exercised through a clear constitutional process, and any transition would be communicated through formal government channels.

The emergence of the document has generated widespread discussion on social media, with users questioning whether it is genuine or part of a misinformation campaign, a concern increasingly associated with politically sensitive content shared online through platforms such as Zimbabwe political X‑spaces.

Efforts to obtain official comment from the OPC and Printflow were ongoing at the time of publication. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
