A 51-year-old Chitungwiza man who masqueraded as a police officer was arrested in a charge office while trying to rescue someone who had been arrested for loitering.
Martin Katsande of Manyame Park on July 22 went to St Mary's Police Station at around 12:30am.
Upon arrival, he proceeded to the charge office where Constable Adam Jimuseni was working from. It was at that time that three constables entered with four people who had been arrested for loitering.
Katsande approached Cst Jimuseni demanding to see one of the accused Tanyaradzwa Chihuri claiming that he was once arrested for the same offence.
After his request, he produced a fake police identity card and showed it to Cst Jimuseni.
He also noted that Katsande's force number had no check letter, prompting him to apprehend him.
Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, Katsande admitted to impersonation, but was lucky to escape a prison term after he was slapped with a wholly suspended six-month jail term on condition he completes 210 hours of community service at St Mary's Clinic.
