A local company, African Pride Frontier Cities, in partnership with foreign investors, intends to construct a very ambitious $200 million African Eco- City in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

The proposed African Eco-city in Victoria Falls is expected to boost the tourism sector in Zimbabwe.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, chairman of the African Pride Frontier Cities Company, Mr Fanuel Kazone, said the company had broken new ground in the tourism sector by embarking on a project that has taken over 23 years to become a reality.

The company will bring together different countries which are in support of the idea, he said.

"The company has brought to the table most African governments over this venture and we are glad that our efforts were not in vain as the responses from our African brothers across our borders were overwhelmingly in our support to immediately commence construction.

"Eco-city is just not any other city but one of a kind. Some may call it Africa's answer to Disneyland but to us it is an African Eco-city where each and every nation will be housed on land stretching as far as 1 200 hectares."

Mr Kazone said that the idea was based on an African way of life such as traditional practices, religion, infrastructure built in an ancient way, restaurants that prepare food the African way and even traditional games.

He, however, said the project requires large sums of money as it is still in its infancy but will create business and employment opportunities.

"This project will witness the injection of large chunks of capital up to millions into the fiscus, albeit that will be done in phases of the projects," he said.

African Pride Frontier cities chief executive Rev John Matsika applauded the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry for their unwavering support for the concept.
