Zimbabwe highways need fencing

Motorists and the travelling public have urged the relevant authorities to consider fencing the country's major roads to avoid the continued loss of lives due to the accidents involving livestock.
With many lives having been lost due to accident involving stray animals along some of the country's busiest roads, calls have been made for the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development to consider the fencing of the country's highways.
Motorists and the travelling public interviewed said it is worrying that there is an increase in the number of fatalities involving livestock and have urged the relevant authorities to invest in the fencing of the highways.
Some motorists said the situation has been compounded by the continued vandalisation of fences erected along some of the country' busiest roads and urged the country's citizens to desist from such practices.
Most vehicle animal collisions has been prevalent in Matabeleland region, with one of the victims being national hero, Retired Air Commodore Mike Karakadzai who died after his vehicle hit a cow.
