Five people were injured on Tuesday when a PCJ bus they were travelling in from Botswana overturned at the Kuwadzana Extension turn off along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.
The bus, belonging to a Botswana company, rammed into a stationary vehicle and swerved off the road as the driver attempted to avoid three Kuwadzana commuter omnibuses that were picking passengers along the highway.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the bus was carrying 35 passengers and four were injured, while the driver of the Mazda vehicle also sustained head injuries and is admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
When the news crew arrived at the scene, the five injured passengers had been taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital, while those who escaped unhurt were busy offloading their goods.
Kuwadzana residents appealed to the relevant authorities to put up traffic lights or a round-about at the Kuwadzana turn off.
They said the spot has become a black spot because of kombi drivers who compete to pick passengers along Bulawayo road.
Meanwhile, ZRP National Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the death toll from road traffic accidents this festive season has now risen to 81.
The four passengers who were injured in the bus were examined and have since been discharged.
