A Norton headmaster was reportedly arrested for assault after kicking a student into unconsciousness as punishment for wearing a hat in an improper manner.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed to the Sunday Mail the development.
"We have picked up a headmaster from a school (name withheld) based in Norton after he allegedly kicked a Form Two student on the back around the spinal cord.
"It is said that on February 12, 2014 around 10am while the headmaster was monitoring the pupils who were on break time he noticed that a Form Two pupil was wearing a school hat improperly. After summoning the pupil, the school headmaster ordered him to wear the hat properly and he complied.
"It is alleged that the school headmaster gave the pupil a kick on the back and he collapsed to the ground and remained unconscious for a few seconds. The school headmaster then realised that the boy had fainted," he said.
Chief Sup Nyathi disclosed that the headmaster is still in custody as investigations continue.
He urged school pupils to report any incidences of assault inflicted upon them by teachers.
