AN attempt to get compensation from a neighbour whose cattle had strayed into his field ended tragically for a Rusape man after the adamant neighbour murdered him in cold blood.
Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant inspector Muzondiwa Clean confirmed the incident and said Jonathan Makoloma (42) from Village 13, Nyamajura in Rusape, had a misunderstanding with Farai Nyamudya of the same village over stray cattle.
"On the fateful day, Makoloma was drinking beer at Amberwell Business Centre in the company of his brother Petros (44) when they heard that cattle had strayed into their field. When they got to the field, Jonathan and his brother figured out that it was Nyamudya's cattle which had strayed into their field, damaging their maize crop," said Asst Insp Clean.
They went back to the business centre and confronted Nyamudya about what had happened, but they failed to reach a consensus and a heated argument broke out.
Unbeknown to the two, Nyamudya teamed up with Tawanda Mlambo (24) and followed them.
"When they caught up with them, the duo attacked the Makoloma brothers, but Petros managed to flee and hide. Nyamudya and Mlambo assaulted Jonathan all over the body and left him for dead.
"Nyamudya and Mlambo went back to the business centre, while Petros carried his seriously injured brother home. Petros later took him to Rusape General Hospital where he died on admission from the severe head injuries he had sustained," said Asst Insp Clean.
A police report was made leading to Nyamudya and Mlambo's arrest on murder charges.
