The state of the Zapu Europe Province
STATEMENT ON THE STATE OF THE PROVINCE
On 7th May, 2011 the province held a Preliminary General Meeting the main purpose of which was for the PEC to update members as to progress thus far and to seek the input of members as to the way forward for the province. In my speech, I advised the meeting of, among other things, our inclination as a PEC to cause fresh provincial elections as soon as possible so that we give the province a fresh start, minus the challenges that the disciplinary matters of the Chairperson and the Secretary for Economic Development were presenting.
The meeting threw out this proposal and instead endorsed our continuation in office for a full term.
The meeting also observed an anomaly in the disciplinary issues referred above in the sense that the matters were not referred to the Provincial Council of Elders by the PEC and as such, on that account, the matter had to be revisited. The meeting then resolved that the PEC approach the National Council of Elders with a view to having the decisions already passed on the disciplinary cases in question set aside and the affected members re-instated immediately. Their cases would then start at PEC level and if necessary, the PEC would then refer the cases to the provincial CoE.
We wrote to the National Council of Elders as per the resolution of the meeting of 7th May, 2011. On Thursday 9th June, 2011 we received communication from the National CoE advising that the National Disciplinary Committee had looked at the matter after our request and that they had agreed with our request. That decision has since been endorsed by the President of the party.
We have since communicated the decision to the Provincial Chair, Mr Arthur Molife and the Secretary for Economic Development, Mr Stephen Drew and welcomed then back to the PEC.
Arrangements are now under way for a smooth hand over of the Chair by the writer to Mr Arthur Molife. We have set the 18th June, 2011 as the deadline for completion of the handover.
I have appended the PEC line up as a separate document.
That aside, the branch formation effort is carrying on. Brighton continues to shine in terms of activities and visibility.
Meetings have since been held and there are steering committees now in place in North East, East Midlands as well as Yorkshire & Humberside. London, East of England, South West and North West re all mulling over similar activities. Since my last State of the province message of 3rd Apri, 2011, I am pleased to report that the tide is indeed turning and that there are more activities in the province.
My appeal to everyone is to remember that progress depends on your attitude as an individual. Do not expect someone else to do it for you. They may well be waiting for you to act. If every one of us woke up everyday looking forward to doing their bit for the party, no matter how little, you will be surprised how much could be achieved in a short space of time. We owe it to the suffering masses in Zimbabwe to usher in a ZAPU government that will see to the restoration of our country to its rightful place amongst the proud rule of law and human rights respecting nations of the world.
Our relevance as a province has not changed. We have to mobilize resources in a sustained manner. Without those resources, the people back home can do very little. Please continue to respond generously to all appeals for resources. Please also continue to keep your membership subscriptions at least up to date.
