A 29-YEAR-OLD Marondera man who axed his manager over a $5 dispute will serve an effective five-year jail term after he was convicted of attempted murder by Marondera magistrate Lois Mukunyadzi.
Never Jimah of Rakata village in Marondera was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared in court on Tuesday facing charges of axing Fungai Benny on the head following a misunderstanding.
Jimah worked as a general worker at Dombi Farm in Marondera and Benny is the general manager.
The court heard that on March 8 this year, Jimah and Benny were drinking beer at Suffolk business centre in Marondera.
Jimah borrowed $5 from Benny to buy beer after the barman had said he had no change for $20.
When Benny wanted to go home he asked for his money, but Jimah said he had given the money to his friend.
A misunderstanding then arose between the two and Jimah then took an axe and struck Benny on the head. The victim sustained a deep cut.
In passing judgment, Mukunyadzi said there was need to protect human life hence a custodial sentence was ideal.
