Former freedom fighters who receive their monthly payments on the last Friday of every month will now be paid on the 5th of next month amid rising fears that the Public Service Commission could fail to pay civil servants next month.
War veterans who spoke to Bulawayo24 expressed their disappointment on their pay day being moved to next month saying they will not be able to meet rental deadlines.
"It is the first time that we have been unable to receive our payments on time and we do not know the cause of this, maybe there are cash shortages," said one war veteran.
War veterans were awarded ZW$50 000 gratuities in 1997 the equivalent of US$4000 then and now receive monthly payments of up to $200.
Economists have argued the gratuities were part of the causes of Zimbabwe's economic collapse of 2008.
All civil servants besides teachers were initially meant to be paid this Thursday but had their pay day moved to Thursday next week.
The PSC has in the past three months changed paydays for it's workforce owing to a tense economic environment.
