War vets lash out at Zanu-PF, MDC-T

THE Zimbabwe Liberators' Platform (ZLP) has lashed out at Zanu-PF for ruining the economy and accused the MDC-T of betraying the aspirations of Zimbabweans through power wrangles saying the party no longer possessed any moral justification to represent the people.

ZLP was formed by former liberation war fighters to advocate for peace, democracy and good governance.

The organisation called on all trade unions, church groups and "enlightened politicians" from both Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations to join forces and seek ways of saving the country from collapse. ZLP said even if Zimbabwe was up for sale, there would be no takers as it has no value.

"Zimbabwe is bleeding and the country is crying out for help and leadership. There is evidence of government failure at every level. The economy has collapsed thanks to populist, corrupt and bankrupt policies of Zanu-PF. The much hyped look east policy has not yielded the hoped for results," ZLP Trust chairperson Happyson Nenji said in a statement.

"The hopes and aspirations the nation had placed on the MDC were betrayed. Rather than apologising to the nation and Sadc, they are torn up in wrangles for power. They abandoned the Sadc-led GPA (Global Political Agreement) processes and rushed into Zanu-PF-managed elections without the requisite reforms as demanded by Sadc.

"What moral and political justification do they have to demand a second bite at the cherry?

"We call upon all Diasporans, civic society, the business sector, formal and informal, trade unions, faith-based organisations, professional bodies and enlightened politicians from both Zanu-PF and the MDCs to join forces in a national salvation to save the country and restore institutions for the service for all," Nenji added.
