A ZVISHAVANE woman lost her right eye and all her front teeth after being bashed with a tricycle by her husband for chatting with a daughter-in-law he had disowned.
Regai Nyoni (48) of Vikisani village under Chief Masunda appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madiba yesterday charged with contravening Section 3 (a)(1) of the Domestic Violence Act.
It was the State's case that on March 30 Nyoni came home and found his wife Minenhle Moyo chatting with their daughter-in-law Sheila Zhou whom he disowned after she reported him to the local chief for sexual misconduct.
Nyoni asked his wife why she was chatting with Zhou when she knew fully well that she had reported him to Chief Masunda.
A misunderstanding ensued and Nyoni allegedly went into the house and took their son's tricycle and struck her twice on the face before further assaulting her with clenched fists.
Moyo lost her right eye and all her front teeth during the assault and was rushed to the Zvishavane District Hospital for treatment.
Zhou tried to intervene to restrain her father-in-law and she too was also severely assaulted before neighbours came to her rescue.
Nyoni was remanded out of custody on free bail to tomorrow for sentencing.
