HIV+ man fear dying in jail

A 33-year-old man from Nkulumane who assaulted his sister yesterday pleaded with the magistrate not to send him to jail saying he feared he would die in prison as he was HIV-positive.
Themba Chimiso acceded to Hloniphani Ndlovu's plea and fined him $100.
Prosecuting Whatmore Tembo told the court that on Monday, Ndlovu went home drunk and poured cold water on his sister who was asleep on a sofa.
He then assaulted her with open hands several times all over her body.
The complainant reported the assault to the police leading to Ndlovu's arrest.
Ndlovu told the magistrate that he was HIV-positive and pleaded with him not to send him to jail.
"Your worship, I admit that I poured water on my sister. I was drunk and I was angry because she accused me of something that I didn't do. Iam pleading with you not to send me to jail because I am HIV-positive and I fear dying in prison," said Ndlovu.
