Gukurahundi exhibition removed at National Art Gallery

The controversial exhibition by Bulawayo visual artist Owen Maseko which was banned in 2010 at the National Art Gallery will be finally removed today.

Maseko was arrested and faced charges of undermining the authority of President Robert Mugabe by exhibiting paintings depicting the 1980s Matabeleland and the Midlands Gukurahundi massacres perpetrated by the 5 Brigade.

Information from the gallery indicates that the exhibition win be removed.

Cultural enthusiast Kgosi Nyathi said "Sibathontisele' Gukurahundi exhibition by Owen Maseko banned in 2010 will be removed from the Art Gallery in Byo today at 2pm".

The move is part of the court order.
