Grace Mugabe's absence from the public scene has sent tongues wagging, where is she?
FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe was conspicuous by her absence at Gushungo Dairy factory yesterday when the Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and her wife Maiga Aminata Keita visited the factory, fuelling speculation she may have slipped out of the country again for medical attention in Asia, as she has not been seen in public for a while.
The First Lady was in no-show at her Grace Mugabe Foundation Farm in Mazowe where the Malian delegation was taken to witness one of the success stories of Zimbabwe's land reform programme.
Keita toured the dairy farm, owned by the First Family, in the company of President Mugabe.
Grace's absence from the public scene has sent tongues wagging .
Its reported that Mugabe told other African heads of states in South Africa during an African Union summit Grace Mugabe has gone to see their daughter. But its not clear as to which country their daughter is in but it is most likely to be in Singapore.
He said "Sorry, I did not come with my wife. She went to see our daughter...When she comes, I will persuade her that from the lots of cattle we have, we can contribute some 300 so that they can be sold as our own contribution to start pledges in our country."
Grace dominated Zimbabwe's political scene towards the end of 2015 when she was nominated to lead the Zanu-PF Women's League. Her name came up often in 2014 as a likely successor for her husband, President Robert Mugabe.
The first lady was forced to remain in Singapore in January after the first family's annual holiday, with Mugabe telling supporters on his arrival back home that the first lady had undergone appendix surgery.
Grace later came back to Zimbabwe and said she was well enough to push the ruling party's women's league agenda.
The Zimbabwe Independent reported that Grace was suffering from colon cancer, that she'd had surgery while vacationing in Singapore and had gone back there for treatment. Part of her colon was removed.
"About 30 centimeters was removed, but now she is in a bad state. That is why she disappeared from the public spotlight," a relative told Zimbabwe Independent.
President Robert Muagbe's spokesperson George Charamba and Information minister Jonathan Moyo could not be reached for comment as their mobile phones went unanswered.
