Festivities are being planned to mark Zimbabwe First Lady Grace Mugabe's 50th birthday next week, five months after a lavish birthday bash was held to celebrate her husband's 91st birthday.

Organisers are asking sponsors to "celebrate this important milestone" in the First Lady's life by making "generous cash donations" towards the Amai (Mother) Grace Mugabe Jubilee.

"Well wishers are invited to kindly donate in cash or kind towards any of [the] Charity organisations which Amai patronises," said an advert published in Friday's press.

Grace is quickly becoming a force to reckon with in Zimbabwe's political landscape.

Independent press reports suggest she is backed by a group of relatively young and extremely wealthy politicians dubbed the "Generation 40", that is seeking to position themselves to take over from President Robert Mugabe.

According to Friday's advertisement, the birthday party will be held at the Mugabe's mansion, known locally as the "Blue Roof Residence", in Harare's wealthy Borrowdale Brook suburb on July 25. Her actual birthday is next Thursday.

Major sponsors of Grace's jubilee will get a seat at the first lady's table and advertising at the event.

In February Mugabe marked his 91st birthday in Victoria Falls, with the meat of wild animals and eight giant cakes fed to the thousands of guests.
