A 24 year-old man from Beatrice allegedly raped an 11-year old girl he had ambushed on her way from school.
Prosper Masunda of Banhamombe Village under chief Mashaymobe in Mhondoro allegedly raped the girl after threatening her with a knife.
He appeared before Regional magistrate Solomon Jenya and pleaded not guilty.
The matter came out after the girl refused to go to school. She told her mother that she was refusing to go to school because Masunda had threatened to continue raping her until she gets pregnant.
Masunda was employed at a plot in Beatrice.
The State, led by Nicholas Mabvongodze heard that on July 2 2015, the complainant was on her way from school with her friends and the accused called her and asked her to follow him on a shorter route home.
At a secluded place, Masunda allegedly produced a knife, told the girl that he wanted to have sex with her and ordered her to remove her uniform. He then assaulted the naked girl before raping her once.
"I wanted to cry, but I could not," said the girl, "each time I tried to, Prosper would lift up his knife and threaten to stab me."
The following days, the accused would allegedly wait by the road for the complainant on her way from school and assault her for refusing to come with him to get raped.
The matter was known to the complainant's mother a week later after she refused to go to school.
She told the court, "I divulged it to my mother because he had threatened to continue raping me until I get pregnant. I had not revealed it earlier because I was afraid they would accuse me of having consented to the sexual intercourse. Prosper had told me that he would kill me if ever I told anyone."
Magistrate Jenya remanded Masunda to August, 26 2015.
