POLICE in Masvingo have arrested a maid for allegedly strangling her two-month-old baby and burying it in her employer's yard.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Tinaye Matake confirmed the case.
Tariro Mudyahoto (25) of Utai Village, under Headman Madyangove, was employed by Gumisai Taruberekera who lives in the same area.
According to police, Taruberekera left for Zvishavane on September 8, leaving Mudyahoto and her baby behind. Mudyahoto allegedly strangled the infant using a cloth and buried it in a shallow grave.
She allegedly fled to her rural home in Chirumanzu. Upon arrival, her aunt suspected she could have been nursing a baby after observing her breasts.
"The aunt force-marched her to Mashava Police Station where she confessed after interrogation," said Insp Matake.
"The body was later exhumed and taken to Masvingo Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem."
