The Supreme Court has struck off the roll the matter in which Zimpapers and one of its entertainment reporters, Mtandazo Dube were contesting the awarding of US$10 000 in defamation damages to songstress, Tererai Mugwadi for a defamatory article which affected her standing in society.
Justices Elizabeth Gwaunza, Susan Mavhangira and Anne Marie Gowora ordered Zimpapers, the applicants in the matter to pay wastage costs, after the party's legal practitioner admitted that their appeal papers were not in order as they failed to clearly articulate what they seek.
Mugwadi dragged Zimpapers and Dube to court seeking US$1 million for a defamatory article crafted by Dube and published in the Sunday Mail of the 3rd of July 2011.
The article titled 'Tererai on Drugs,' stated that she had been sexually abused by several musicians to the extent that nobody really cares about her anymore.
Justice Chigumba granted an order in favour of Mugwadi, instructing the defendants to pay her US$10 000 plus the costs of the lawsuit.
