ZLHR, ZHRC sign MoU to enforce human rights

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) on November 25, 2015 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalising, a pact to work towards co-operation in nurturing the protection and enforcement of human rights in Zimbabwe.
ZLHR Copmmunications officer Kumbirai Mafunda posted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was cemented at a signing ceremony convened at ZHRC Head Office in Harare, where ZHRC Chairperson Commissioner Elasto Hilarious Mugwadi and ZLHR Executive Director Irene Petras signed on behalf of the two institutions.
"The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by ZHRC Deputy Chairperson Dr Ellen Sithole, Commissioners Dr Joseph Kurebwa, Kwanele Muriel Jirira, Professor Carroll Themba Khombe, Sheila Hilary Matindike, Acting Executive Secretary Mr Erick Mukutiri and Mrs Kurai Makumbe, the Chief Human Rights Officer - Complaints Handling and Investigations and ZLHR Programmes Manager Dzimbabwe Chimbga and Communications Specialist Kumbirai Mafunda," said Mafunda.
He said through the MoU, ZLHR and ZHRC will establish a mutual relationship in order to enhance the protection and promotion of human rights and exploit and develop synergies and complementarities between the two institutions.
"The two institutions committed to working together by referring/receiving, and dealing with cases and sharing knowledge and expertise on human rights, and cooperating on identified thematic issues in order to achieve the goal of promoting, protecting and enforcing human rights," he said.
