Small house claims $500 for baby upkeep

A MARRIED man has been dragged to the Maintenance Court by his small house who is demanding $500 for the upkeep of their five- month-old child.
Freddy Ndabalimi told magistrate Batanai Tuwe that he could not afford to give Grace Nduna half of his salary. He also denied paternity of the child.
Ndabalimi told Tuwe that he could only afford to pay $80 for the upkeep of the child until they go for a DNA test.
"I can only offer $80 for now while waiting for us to go for a DNA test. I'm married and I've another child who stays in the rural areas. All along I've been paying rent for her and I used to give her money, but for now she's no longer my lover. My salary is only $1, 000 and I can't give her half of my salary," said Ndabambili.
However, Nduna told the court that they were still in love. She said Ndabalimi can afford to pay $500 per month as he earns more than what he had told the court.
"Your worship he can afford to pay as his salary is about $1,200 per month. I stick to $500. He's lying that we're no longer together. We're still in love. He should maintain his child," said Nduna.
Tuwe ordered the two to go for a DNA test and to consult the court after three months. The magistrate also ruled that Ndabalimi pays $200 for the upkeep of the baby.
