Devolution Campaigners organisation has bemoaned the failure by government to promote vocational skills development infrastructure in the Matabeleland.
The organisation said the youths of Matabeleland will stand to benefit in vocational skills enhancement programmes from devolution of power as centralization has failed to promote vocational skills development infrastructure in the region.
"According to the Inventory of Facilities and Social Amenities (IFSA) 2014 Report, Matabeleland North and South provinces had the least number of vocational training centers in all the non-metropolitan provinces of Zimbabwe as evidenced," said the campaigners.
Manicaland has eleven vocational training centres in seven districts, Mashonalalnd Central with eight districts has five centres, Mashonalalnd East with nine districts has six centres, Mashonalalnd West with seven districts has eight centres, Maatabeleland North with seven districts has zero centres, Matabeleland South with seven districts has four centres, Mindlands with eight districts has 12 centres and Masvingo with seven districts has fifteen centres.
"As Campaigners for Devolution we encourage the youths of Matabeleland to join the call for the speedy implementation of Devolution of Power by the government as this will ensure that local youths can easily lobby local governments to use local resources to establish vocational training centers in their provinces and districts," said the campaigners.
"Campaigners for Devolution envisages a situation where with devolution of power, every district of the region can have a vocational skills
training center to promote youth skills training alternatives and promote skills development and human rights."
