A GWANDA woman struck her daughter's boyfriend on the head and neck with an axe after busting a tryst in the girl's hut.
Nyadzisai Lusia Kasirai, 43, a teacher in Gwanda rural, flew into a fit of rage after her daughter brought Thobelani Ncube, 21, into her homestead. She appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai yesterday facing assault charges.
In a warned and cautioned statement, Kasirai admitted axing Ncube but she said she struck the man after finding him in her children's bedroom hut. Kozanai convicted Kasirai and fined her $100 or 30 days in prison.
The magistrate wholly suspended a further 60 days in prison for three years on condition of good behaviour. Prosecutor Moses Gondongwe told the court that on May 23, at around 11PM, Ncube visited his girlfriend Delight Khumalo at Kasirai's homestead.
However, Ncube's cover was blown by barking dogs that alerted Kasirai who was sleeping in her bedroom. She observed her daughter leading Ncube to her bedroom hut and waited for a while before arming herself with an axe.
Kasirai proceeded to the hut and ordered her daughter to come out and attend to ''cattle that had destroyed the pen''.
When the daughter opened the door, Kasirai immediately entered the hut and locked the door behind her before confronting Ncube.
She struck him once on the top of the eye and the second strike missed the head and landed on his neck.
A bleeding Ncube managed to unlock the door and fled before making a police report leading to Kasirai's arrest.
A medical report indicated that he sustained moderate injuries.
