The Civil Society and Citizens Social Movements groups have nailed President Robert Mugabe over alleged rampant human rights violations in their letter to the United national Human Rights Council peer review.
"We are writing to demonstrate our deep concerns about the Human Rights Record of Zimbabwe Government led by the brutal and dictatorial regime of Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Zanu PF. President Robert Mugabe and His government have failed to follow the recommendations made by the UNHRC in 2011.We the Citizens have submitted a document which shows the correct Human Rights Record of The Zimbabwe Regime between 2014 to 2016," reads the document to UNHRC.
"The Human Rights Situation has grown increasingly worrisome especially in 2016 as state sanctioned violence has increased. It is our hope that the UNHRC peer review committee reviews this document which has been complied by the Zimbabwe Citizens who are Concerned about the Situation in Zimbabwe."
The concerned groups indicated that in compilation of their document they used quarterly and annually documents from various Human Rights organisations, Victim accounts, News Reports, Videos and pictures.
"We the people of Zimbabwe deserve to be heard. The Situation in Zimbabwe continues to Deteriorate. Zanu PF has made it clear that there will be no election reforms and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has failed to meet the goals for reforms they set in Strategic Plan of 2016 and ZEC adamantly refuses to demilitarize and insists they have no financial capacity to educate the electorate , ensure every Zimbabwe has a chance to vote and provide necessary environment for free and fair elections," reads their letter.
We as Zimbabwean citizens are left feeling hopeless. The deteriorating economic situation, a brutal government and no hope free or fair elections to remedy the situation is a troubling. It is our hope the UNHRC peer review committee will address the deplorable human rights abuses by the Robert Mugabe government."
They said this government has broken most constitutional laws of Zimbabwe and International human rights laws and will continue to brutalize people as long as the international community is quiet.
"We the citizens of Zimbabwe are strong. resilient and our only hope is for a better Zimbabwe. We have been tormented by Zanu PF government for 36 years and we will work hard to restore our country and our dignity if the international community can find it in their hearts to support our cause," reads the document.
