Delta pours $41 000 into pool national tournament

The biggest beverage maker Delta Corporation has increased sponsorship of the Carling Black Label (CBL) pool tournament from $35 000 last year to $41 000 as the tournament has grown bigger and better this year.
"We have increased sponsorship of CBL pool tournament to $41 000 this year as the preliminary rounds are now being staged in 18 centres across the country as compared to 10 previously.
This year there will be more participants at the finals than last year as the competitions grow bigger and better," said Delta marketing manager Patricia Murambinda.
Meanwhile, Gweru will be painted black as the finals will be held at Barns Sports Club on Saturday this week where 100 male players and 25 female players from across the country will be battling for the coveted first prize.
The competitions which are in their 11th year will begin at 10 am to 5pm.
Last year the national tournament which was held at Bulawayo Raylton Club was won by Tendai Mubaiwa of Chitungwiza in the men's category and Shamiso Musiiwa of Mutare in the women's category who pocketed $1000 and $500 respectively.
The winner from each centre pocketed $250 for the male category and $50 for the female category.
The national winners' prizes for this year had not been announced by the time of going to Press.
There are three male players from each centre and one female player who will go to the national finals and Masvingo region has four centres Chiredzi, Zvishavane, Masvingo and Beitbridge said Raymond Dirwai the Delta beverages marketing and sales manager for the region.
"The tournament will be a knock out event and will be played as singles to determine the overall winner for both women and men categories," added Dirwai.
Delta Beverages has brewing and beverage operations across the country covering all major cities and towns and the country's leading brewers with more than 15 beer brands and some 3,000 employees across the country.
