Heaps of uncollected garbage and massive water disconnections in Gwanda may soon lead to an outbreak of the deadly cholera disease.
The Zanu PF led municipality has resorted to disconnecting water supplies to hundreds of defaulters in a move that has seen scores without running water.
Flies (commonly referred to as green bombers) have infested themselves in numbers in the town and health experts fear, it's a ticking health bomb waiting to explode.
"If garbage remains uncollected like this there is a likelihood of an outbreak of waterborne diseases, the situation has been compounded by the fact that many people have had their supplies cut and are without running water," said a health expert who requested anonymity for professional reasons.

Residents without water have been forced to use nearby bushes to relieve themselves.
A drive around town revealed that garbage has not been collected for a fortnight now with authorities putting the blame on a broken down tractor which is used to ferry garbage.
In the townships garbage could be seen lining up the streets.

Residents owe council almost $1 million in unpaid rates and Gwanda mayor Knowledge Ndlovu has in the past urged residents to pay saying its the only way council will be able to deliver services.
Council prioritized the acquisition of a refuse truck in this years budget but it is unlikely that the cash strapped council will be able to achieve its goal soon.
