Passengers cheat death in highway accidents

Sixteen passengers were rushed to hospital after a PCJ bus overturned about 100 km along the Bulawayo Harare Road at about 1am.
About 30km along the same highway, nearer Bulawayo, another bus rammed into a herd of cattle at about 1pm, killing three beasts on the spot.
No one was injured. Both buses were coming from Francistown in Botswana, going to Harare. The driver in the PCJ bus allegedly fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
"Some people suffered broken fingers and severe bruises for which they might need skin grafting. I was asleep when I heard screams and felt solid objects hitting me as goods from the racks fell onto passengers. There were sparks in the bus that caused me to think it was on fire. When the bus came to a standstill, I realised I had just survived a horrible accident," said Betty Ncube.
Bulawayo24 news witnessed passengers trying to gather up what was left of their goods, while villagers from surrounding farms raided the scene for groceries.
In the second accident, a cow was trapped under the bus while two other animals with mangled legs were sprawled on the highway.
Passengers said the bus hit a herd of about 30 cattle that were being driven across the road by a group of boys.
