A GWANDA tout is lucky to be alive after sustaining severe injuries when his colleague allegedly assaulted and pulled him by his genitals in a fight over $1.
Bhekimpilo Ncube, 28, of Marriage Quarters in Gwanda Town and is a tout, sustained severe injuries on his private parts after being assaulted by Clement Ncube, 34, following a misunderstanding over $1.
Ncube was rushed unconscious to Gwanda Provincial Hospital following the vicious attack.
Witnesses said the fight almost turned tragic with some onlookers fleeing from the scene, thinking that Ncube had died.
"The two were fighting over $1, which commuter omnibus operators give to touts for loading passengers into their vehicles. During the fight, Clement grabbed Bheki's genitals and dragged him back and forth," said one of the witnesses.
"People watched helplessly as Bheki went through extreme physical torture at the hands of Clement, a notorious tout who is regarded as the chief of the touts in Gwanda. He clung to Bheki's genitals until he collapsed. Initially everyone believed Bheki was dead but he later regained consciousness at hospital."
A medical report showed that Ncube's injuries were severe.
On Friday, Clement briefly appeared before Gwanda magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire charged with assault. He denied the charge and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.
Prosecutor Getrude Zvidzai narrated Ncube's September 28 ordeal.
"On September 28, 2014 at around 9.45AM and at the Gwanda-Bulawayo taxi rank, a misunderstanding arose between the complainant and the accused person who were touting at the taxi rank.
"The accused person assaulted the complainant with clenched fists several times on his body. Accused also bit complainant's forehead and forcibly pulled complainant's genitals.
"The complainant fainted as a result of the assault and was sent to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for medication," said Zvidzai in the state outline.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Clement's arrest.
