ZANU-PF party supporters who attended the 15th People's Conference that ended in Victoria Falls yesterday went home all smiles after the First Family showered them with Christmas goodies that comprised different kinds of groceries.
More than 6 000 delegates attended the conference whose theme was "Promoting people's power through Zim Asset", and all of them received a hamper comprising 5kg rice, 1kg washing powder, one bar of soap, a shopping bag, a packet of sugar, a bottle of cooking oil and a Christmas card.
Said President Mugabe in his closing remarks: "The First Lady has a Christmas gift for all of you. Let us go and share with others. As we end this conference I want to wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Phambili ngokubambana, Ukubambana, Kubatana, Kujatana," said President Mugabe as he ended his address.
Before resuming his seat, it was pomp and funfair for about five minutes as President Mugabe and the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe, together with the two Vice- Presidents Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa joined the crowd on the dance floor.
Earlier, Deputy Secretary for Women's Affairs Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo made the announcement about the Christmas present.
"Before I sit down Your Excellency sir, may I announce that the First Lady and Secretary for Women Affairs has a Christmas present for everyone in here," she said.
"The goodies are a shopping bag with 5kg rice, 1kg washing powder, one bar of soap, a Christmas card, and a truck carrying sugar and cooking oil is on its way and we hope it arrives here on time."
The First Lady has been commended for her generosity and option for the poor and vulnerable during her tour of the country's provinces where she has donated various kinds of goods that include food and clothes.
