The 'ORAP Zenzele Chevrolet Champions Cup' is back for its 3rd year. It is a part of the Shooting for Education and Development (SHED) programme, which aims to empower and inspire young people to see sport as more than just recreation but as a tool for their development.
It brings together young people from different communities, creating a platform for performance, learning, relationship building and leadership development.
This event, emerging as a sporting and youth development highlight in Bulawayo, will bring together 18 schools from 4 provinces, (Bulawayo, Midlands, Matabeleland South and North). A number of sponsors and partners from Government, civil society and the private sector will be present.
This year will see an increased participation of the girl child in the tournament evidenced by the increased number of girls' soccer teams. In a male dominated sport like soccer, the ORAP-Zenzele Chevrolet Champions Cup nurtures the talent of young girls. To add on, all participating teams receives soccer kits, prizes and awards to motivate them and encourage them to keep playing.
"The ORAP Zenzele Chevrolet Champions Cup is an investment in youth development that helps safe guard their future and that is something that cannot be measured wholly but will definitely be proven in the future when more and more soccer players emerge," Dumisani Nyoni (Chief Strategy Officer at ORAP).
The guest of honour this year will be Busisa Moyo, CEO OF United Refineries and President of The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries.
There will be more information presented on the 9th of June, 2016 at 2.30pm at Gifford High School. The tournament starts at 8am on both the 10th to the 11th of June and entrance is free.
