Congradulating the New Minister of Water, Environment and Climate

Matabeleland Environmental Justice Association (MEJA) congradulates the newly sworn in Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Honourable Oppah Muchinguri for being appointed into the helm of the Ministry.

As MEJA we look forward to working with the new Minister in fostering sound environmental and climate justice initiatives in Matabeleland in particular and Zimbabwe in general especially ond initiatives that include:

1. Ratification and domestication of environmental international laws, policies and regulations;

2. Mainstreaming environmental principles, policies and rights in the formulation of new Zimbabwean laws and legislation and during the current process of re-alignment of laws in line with the new Constitution;

3. Enforcement of environmental rights and laws in Matabeleland especially related to the extractive and natural resource management and water management sectors;

4. Lobbying and advocating for the enactment of an Environmental Court in the country so as to monitor and enforce environmental laws, rights and policies;

5. Mitigating the impact and effects of deforestation, dessertification, land degradation, biodiversity loss and all forms of pollution in Matabeleland;

6. Promoting awareness and capacity building of communities on key environmental and climate related issues;

7. Fostering environmental justice and accountability.

Matabeleland Environmental Justice Association is a christian campaigns and advocacy association that is dedicated to fostering environmental and climate justice in the Matabeleland region of Zimbabwe.
