MDC resolutions

The MDC's programme of action post July 31 election has been one of introspection, reflection and consultation with party structures, members, supporters and stakeholders nationally.
The culmination of this exercise was the holding of the National Standing Committee's strategic planning and implementation workshop held in Gweru from the 4th to the 6th of April, 2014. After the workshop, the Standing Committee met in formal session and made a number of resolutions.
The Standing Committee reaffirmed the party's values and principles, thereby recommitting itself to the continuation of the political struggle in the background of the July 31 election in which Zanu -PF declared itself victorious by hook and crook.
The Standing Committee noted that 9 -months after the elections, the issues that confront Zimbabwe remain insurmountable. The reality is that the Zanu-PF victory has been a loss to Zimbabwe's economic progress and this is more glaring now than at any other time as the economy continues to deteriorate to the levels of 2008. The high levels of corruption, unethical salaries awarded to CEOs of quasi Zanu -PF parastatals, the ever declining work ethic of the spike throwing ZRP, liquidity crisis, heightened unemployment which have all exacerbated the decline in the quality of life for ordinary Zimbabweans, is a reality which as MDC we will confront with all that we have.
Standing committee also took note of the resignations of two Standing committee members, Qhubani Moyo, the former Director of Policy Research and Coordination and Sondon Mugaradziko the former Director of International Relations and External structures, two national executive members, Edward Mkhosi, and Siyabonga Malandu Ncube. In doing so the national standing committee took the opportunity to reshuffle and reallocate portfolios and roles to fully reflect and re-energize the activities of the party.
Sam Mlilo who was Secretary of Education now becomes the Director of Policy Research and Coordination, a position he has held before and Henry Chimbiri becomes his deputy.
Former National Deputy Secretary for Information and Publicity, Kurauone Chihwayi has been moved to the Standing Committee. He becomes Secretary for International Relations and External structures, replacing Sondon Mugaradziko who resigned. Sibongile Mgijima will take over as Deputy Secretary for Media, Information and Publicity.
Kudakwashe Munengiwa becomes the Secretary for Training and Political Education, a position formerly held by Tariro Shumba who becomes a national executive member.
Mary Manyenje becomes the Secretary for Education. She was Deputy Secretary for Recruitment, a position which is now filled by Shorai Marongere.
The position vacated by Edward Mkhosi, Secretary for land and Agriculture is now held by Angula Gwabada.
Former Gwanda municipality mayor, Lionel De Necker becomes Secretary for Local government while Nqabutho Dube becomes Secretary for Water and Energy, replacing Siyabonga Malandu.
Dennis Mwiro is the new Secretary for Science, Technology and ICT while Peggy Khumalo replaces Sibongile Mgijima as Secretary for Natural Resources and Tourism. Khumalo will be deputized by Hlengiwe Sibanda.
