MDC-T is factionalism personified

18 Jun 2014 at 12:29hrs | Views

The purported acrimony heating up along factional lines within ZANU PF is just but a figment of the not so inspired imagination of the opposition MDC T party. Any democratic political institution worth its salt allows constructive discourse within its rank and file to ensure continuous rebirth of ideas and strategies. That is what defines ZANU PF, which the MDC-T in its moral and intellectual bankruptcy terms fierce factional feuds.

The imaginary nasty fights that are being peddled by some sections of the media have never seen the light of day for the general public to witness. From a layman's point of view the indecorous Tendai Biti – Morgan Tsvangirai factional battles top the familiarity chat given the drama that characterizes these.

The MDC T in-house commotion saw the merciless thumping of Elton Mongama and sympathizers and a plethora of perplexing suspensions by the coterie of the so-called MDC originals and academics.

The confusion currently reigning in this MDC-T association, for it has become more of this than a party, is disgraceful given the peaceful and adult manner in which ZANU-PF has been housekeeping pertinent issues such as economic turn-around policies and the succession debate. Indeed if any such differences do exist, then it is apparent that President Robert Mugabe and his lieutenants are handling it better than Morgan Tsvangirai.

The mark of true leadership is the ability to steer the ship through murky waters by handling and containing those who look up to the captain so that even disillusioned crew members still respect authority. This, of course, is a far cry from what is happening in the MDC-T.

It then poses the question whether the case of factionalism in ZANU PF is a reality or a creation by the beleaguered association that dismally lost the 2013 elections and is determined to clutch at straws in an attempt to divert attention from its house that is on fire?

The MDC-T infighting has since spilled over to the courts as well as to haunt the health of its embattled leader who recently succumbed to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following contestation of his throne by the renewal team of Biti and company. His hospitalization at Trauma Center, Harare, was exacerbated by the uncertainty that shrouded payment of the hospital bill, culminating in further   nervous breakdown.

Indeed, if one wants to talk of factionalism, then MDC T should be used as a case study. This is in spite of the party's spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora, miserably aided by Luke Tamborinyoka, whose desire for disinformation would shame Goebels, vehemently denies it as a creation by the detractors of MDC T.

On the other hand, what remains of ZANU PF factionalism is a myriad of stories peddled by conspiracy theorists that cannot be given their obvious dwelling on commentary by anonymous authorities. If it is a case of investigative journalism, then what we are having on ZANU PF is nothing to go by in substantiating the claims of heated factionalism.

In as much as I would want to admit that there can never be absolute political sanity, it would be noble to render accolade to ZANU PF for showcasing maturity if truly factions exist in its ranks. What we are having in MDC T is a case of collective idiocy and selfish power struggles.

Each month, the MDC T is hit by defections, suspensions and drama. The Manicaland chapter is the most recent, with the youth executive defecting to MDC Renewal Team.

This MDC-T association house is literally on fire.

It also seems that the factionalism demon that haunts the MDC T does not contain its curse within political issues but has also extended to family level. The former prime minister has been dogged by marriage and extra marital affairs, which he peddles and tries to quill using donor funds.

The MDC was born of irresponsible personalities with no sense of direction but pregnant of inappropriate zeal to power. The party is indeed a threat to itself and the general populace of Zimbabwe.

I am convinced that the MDC formations should just pack up, shut up and spare Zimbabweans the ignominy of being associated with such a local opposition party than demand unnecessary formation of another Government of National Unity. That way, maybe they could at least, maybe, atone for inflicting untold suffering on the general populace.

But then, who would provide the circus charade that has become synonymous with MT and his MDC-T?
Save you cannot hold this nation at ransom anymore please. We need development than mere politicking for relevance. For once in your life, direct your effort towards national development and   constructive politics.
