Monomutapa 1 - 0 Quelaton
Quelaton slumped to their sixth defeat in eight matches as they faltered against Monomotapa in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
Referee Ruzive Ruzive was firmly in charge of the match, making intelligent and fair decisions that endeared himself to the handful of spectators that were in attendance. Monomotapa's all-important goal came four minutes into the second half courtesy of a well-taken spot kick by Makai Kawashu. Quelaton defender Zibusiso Sibanda brought down
Monomotapa's Kuda Musharu in the 18-area and Ruzive made the correct decision. Kawashu shot past Winston Chiwetu, the Quelaton goalkeeper, in the resultant spot kick.
Quelaton were never in the game, failing to register a single shot at goal in the entire first 45 minutes. On the other hand, Monomotapa were also not at their usual best and had they faced a stronger opposition, they would have had a bad day in office.
However, they were the better side as they attacked furiously from the onset. Quelaton's only realistic opportunity came in the 88th minute, but their striker Mpumelelo Moyo elected to head the ball miles away from target.
Farai Sibanda, the Quelaton coach, conceded defeat, but vowed that his team will not be relegated at the end of the season.
"They had their chances and we had ours. Unfortunately, we failed to score. It is, however, still too early to talk about us being relegation candidates," Sibanda said.
