HIGHLANDERS head coach Kelvin Kaindu yesterday said he would comment on the Zambian Under-23 side job on Monday after meeting the club executive on the same day.
Investigations by Chronicle Sport in recent weeks revealed that the former Zanaco and Bosso forward has been on the radar of the Football Association of Zambia (Faz) led by football legend Kalusha Bwalya. He was part of the group of coaches assigned to review an Under-20 tournament in Lusaka in December 2012.
Faz technical director, Honour Janza confirmed to this publication that the 2012 African Nations Cup winners wanted the services of Kaindu, who is likely to work with Tennant Chilumba, the former Hwange and FC Platinum mentor, for the age group team.
The Zambian has been making up and down trips to the UK for his Uefa B coaching badge, all the time going via Zambia.
"Yes we are planning for that, because he is doing well there. He will be in charge of the Under-23s for the Olympics," Janza told Chronicle Sport on Wednesday.
He said they start their preparations next month and will soon be engaging the Highlanders leadership over the issue. "It will depend on him and his employers in terms of when he would probably start but we need him," said Janza.
Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they were yet to get official communication either from Faz or Kaindu.
Contacted for comment yesterday, Kaindu could not deny nor confirm the overtures by his national association.
"At the moment I cannot comment on that.  I need to meet with the executive first and as you know, Highlanders meetings are held on Mondays so just be patient a little bit, I shall talk to you," said Kaindu who arrived back to Bulawayo on Thursday night from Zambia where he had gone to sort out visa issues.
Indications are that Faz would try and convince the Highlanders board to allow Kaindu to perform his national team duties while also continuing with his Highlanders duties.
If the Zambians are to have Kaindu on fulltime basis, they might have to fork out close to $70,000 for a contract buy-out clause.
