HARARE - Two Hwange coaches missed their team's Castle Premire League match against the defending champions, Dynamos last weekend.
Nation Dube and Mabelo Njekwa missed their team's loss to Dynamos after being assaulted by a Dynamos security personnel identified as Abraham, shortly before Hwange took to the field to warm-up for the match.
After the incident, Hwange threatened not to fulfil the fixture in protest of the attack on their coaches.
The coalminers finally agreed to take to the pitch after negotiations with police, PSL officials and Dynamos officials that lasted close to 30 minutes.
Dube and Njekwa were taken to hospital, leaving kit manager Andrew Zulu and physical trainer Kenneth Nyape in charge of the team.
With team manager Tenant Chilumba also away in his native Zambia attending a coaching course, Zulu and Nyape were thrown into the deep end.
The match finally kicked off 45 minutes late after the fiasco was resolved.
Dynamos went on to score three first half goals through Rodreck Mutuma, Takesure Chinyama and Denver Mukamba before Mutuma grabbed his brace in the second half.
The visitors responded with two second half goals, an excellent free kick by right-back Eric Chipeta and a Daniel Kamunenga stoppage time strike.
Hwange spokesman Burzil Dube said: "We just fulfilled this game because we didn't want to bring the name of our sponsor Hwange Colliery and the sponsor of the league into disrepute. This issue of hooliganism now going into changing rooms needs to be nipped in the bud if we are going to develop our soccer. Considering that there was no coach on the bench, the boys played well even beyond our expectations."
Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa was equally disappointed his players' flamboyance and choice to play to the gallery when they were 4-0 up with close to 30 minutes before the end.
With most DeMbare players show-boating, the coalminers nicked in two consolation goals and had they been accurate they could have easily forced a draw.
"The boys played very well but some of the senior players were complacent after we were leading 4-0," bemoaned Pasuwa.
"Takesure (Chinyama) was now loitering with the ball when he could have scored. When we got those chances we should have buried them. The result however is good for the boys going into next weekend's match. I hope we will utilise the chances that we are going to create against Esperance."
With yesterday's result, Dynamos moved into second place with 12 points from five matches.
Highlanders are in pole position with 13 points following their 3-1 away win over Black Mambas on Saturday.
