Dynamos FC fired blanks as they were forced to share the spoils by a determined Shabanie Mine in an otherwise exciting Castle Lager Premiership soccer match at Maglas yesterday.
DeMbare were lucky to escape with a point in this match in which the hosts felt robbed by second assistant referee Allan Parehwa who denied them what looked like a genuine goal in the 52nd minute.
Lennon Chisunga, a seasoned campaigner who was thrown into the fray yesterday, won the ball deep in midfield and sent a defence-splitting pass to Tarisai Rukanda who obliged with a chip to Francis Kanda.
And Kanda sent the ball past the drawn goalkeeper Washington Arubi and the ball hit the roof of the net before Dynamos centreback Partson Jaure made a belated attempt to head it back to safety.
But the second assistant referee Parehwa surprisingly kept his flag down and Gweru-based referee Thomas Massa had no option but to continue play.
Shabanie also had appeals for a handball turned down in the 15th minute when Guthrie Zhokinyu appeared to have handled in the box.
Apart from these two incidents, Dynamos were the first to settle down and could have drawn first blood after only four minutes but Thomas Magorimbo had his well-taken free-kick, hit from outside the box, saved by Shabanie goalkeeper Victor Twaliki.
Shabanie, who played one of their best games so far this season, had the visitors back peddling in the 10th minute only for Rukanda to direct his effort over the bar with only goalkeeper Arubi to beat.
Dynamos' Zambian import Derick Kabwe, who was introduced as a substitute in the 56th minute for Rodrick Mutuma â€" who was never in the game â€" could have scored on his Premiership debut when he sent a rising shot to the right but Twaliki plucked it out of danger.
The menacing Kabwe returned to haunt the hosts in the 84th minute when he headed a cross from Ocean Mushure with the Shabanie defence at sixes and sevens, but his effort narrowly missed the target.
Kabwe is very good on aerial balls and had he started the match, the story could have been probably different.
The last chance of the day fell to Shabanie in the 87th minute.
Pervington Zimunya reacted to a long clearance from Twaliki, sending a good cross from the right that eluded the DeMbare defence and Erea Phiri was a shade too slow to react, allowing the ball to roll out of play with Arubi at the other end of the action.
Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa blamed the draw on fatigue.
"My boys have played six games in the space of two weeks, but we need to improve on shooting.
"I wanted maximum points, but a draw away from home is very good for us. Kabwe played well but I miss Takesure (Chinyama) and I am just hoping that he will be fit by the weekend. Chinyama is experienced as he easily converts half chances into goals," he said.
His counterpart Luke "Vahombe" Masomere refused to comment about the incident in the 52nd minute.
"The referee said it was not a goal and I respect that. We played a good game. Although we had the upper hand, DeMbare gave us hard times.
"I am happy with the result because we were not playing a small team, but a very big club with a lot of history.
"I would also like to thank both sets of fans as they showed maturity. May they maintain the good spirit of supporting their teams."
Masomere has managed to get three points from three big clubs this season â€" Caps United, FC Platinum and Dynamos.
