Celtic's offer to sign Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona has been approved by the 21-year-old's club, Kaizer Chiefs.

However, the Hoops must still wait to see if Hoffenheim can strike a deal with the £1.6million-rated rising star before they get their chance to make a direct pitch to the player.

Musona will travel to Germany on Sunday to discuss personal terms with the Bundesliga outfit after the clubs agreed on a transfer fee.

Kaizer Chiefs have always maintained that, by dint of being first to make an offer, Hoffenheim would be given priority when it came to trying to finalise a transfer.

However, Celtic have been informed that, if Musona elects not to join the German outfit they will be next in line.

Chiefs manager, Bobby Motaung, who will travel with Musona to Germany, confirmed the Parkhead club are in there with a shout.

He said "There's nothing wrong with their (Celtic's) offer, but they need to wait in line.

"They were the second team to put in an offer for Musona, so we have to operate using our ethics code.

"If the player doesn't agree terms in Germany, then Celtic will get their chance."

However, Hoffenheim are confident they can make their pole position count in the race to land Musona, whose stock has risen after he scored both goals in Zimbabwe's recent African Nations Cup victory over Mali.

Motaung added: "If the talks are successful, the transfer will be concluded almost immediately and Knowledge will be heading to Germany before the start of the new season."

Another target, Jay Bothroyd, is expected to give Celtic his answer by the start of next week, but the attempt to bring in Craig Bellamy seems certain to be an even more drawn-out affair.

If the Manchester City striker does move to Celtic, he could soon be on his way back to Wales as the Hoops – who will play in Swansea on August 3 – are trying to add a game against Cardiff in the midweek before the SPL season kicks off.
