DYNAMOS chairman Kenny Mubaiwa says the Glamour Boys have decided to cast their net beyond the country's borders in their efforts to breathe fresh impetus in the club's technical department. Irked by the fact they finished last season empty-handed, despite their dominance in the previous four years, the club's executive have turned to a foreign coach.
Dembare's last foreign coach was Zambian mentor, the late Keegan Mumba, in 2003, and they have targeted Portuguese gaffer Paulo George Silva who is likely to be unveiled today.
Former Dynamos midfielder, Lloyd Mutasa, is also expected to be unveiled as the assistant coach. Silva was supposed to arrive in Harare yesterday for a meeting with the club ahead of today's unveiling ceremony.
It has also emerged that the club have since agreed terms with their former midfielder Mutasa to assist the Portuguese mentor.
Mutasa, however, will need to be cleared by his employers, the Zimbabwe Prison Services although sources said he is set to retire from his job next month.
Goalkeepers' coach Gift "Umbro" Muzadzi and team manager retain their positions.
Although, Mubaiwa said the Portuguese coach, who last year was coaching Nigerian side COD United, was coming for an interview, our sister paper The Herald has been informed that a deal has been thrashed.
"We have five candidates shortlisted, including our coach last season Tonde, and we had also invited other foreign coaches though I'm not sure if they are going to make it," said Mubaiwa."We are tired of recycling the same coaches. We want to avoid that situation where we hire another coach whom we have worked with before.
"It's better to bring in a new coach with new ideas and he starts his project and we will see how it goes from there."
DeMbare have been quiet on the transfer market and have only made one signing, bringing in Tichaona Chipunza from Triangle, and losing star midfielder Ronald "Rooney" Chitiyo and defender Blessing Moyo.
Sources claim that DeMbare's financial base is currently strained although the decision to hire a Portuguese coach, who is likely to be an expensive option, suggests otherwise.
"The issue of money, whether we have it or we don't have it, is out of question. Money has always been an issue and if you consider that then you will not go anywhere and progress as a club.
"We believe if the right man for the job comes, he will change things and this will translate in more supporters coming for our matches as the team would be back where it belongs and this will also reflect positively on our finances," said Mubaiwa.
