Willovale Mazda Motor Industries (WMMI) is set to resume motor vehicle assembling at its Harare plant  in the second week of February.

On Thursday, Bulawayo24.com heard that the motor vehicle assembling company would by the time of resuming its operations have "received the initial batch of vehicle kits from its Chinese partners, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company Limited (BAIC) Group."

The source disclosed that WMMI would be assembling the Grand Tiger model.

"We received three vehicles of the Grand Tiger model for the purposes of conducting test drives. The model has proven popular with most of the local authorities,"said the source.

The source further disclosed that the re-opening of WMMI would result in the employment of an initial workforce of 50 employees.

WMMI stopped  producing cars  in 2012 when production plunged to below 4 000 from a peak of 18 000 vehicles per year in 1997.

But the firm is back on stream to revive the economy.

Willowvale is 60% owned by Motec Holdings, which in turn is 75% controlled by the state-owned IDCZ and 25% by Itochu of Japan.
Motec also owned motoring firms Amtec, Autologistic Services and Deven Engineering, while IDCZ has been disposing of its subsidiaries.
